Tariffs and talent: Have your say at a webinar Thursday, March 27 at 1pm Eastern

Day 1 of the campaign trail and as if this whirlwind and critical election and the next 35 days weren’t enough to create 18+ hour days for many, we remain eyeball deep in very serious issues for which no magic “PAUSE” button can be hit.

Research Canada and our national partners are watching the tariff situation like hawks given the potential devastating implications to Canadians and patients if medications, medical devices and medical supply chains are not protected from tariffs and retaliatory measures. Anyone who is in a position to help us amplify our message should contact me to discuss.

And, we are seized with the increasing coverage, news, and first-hand information of major layoffs, cuts, freezes to health and medical research in the US.

To respond to interest from the Canadian health research and innovation community, government and industry, we are hosting a virtual dialogue on Thursday, March 27 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Eastern. Everyone with a stake in talent, research collaboration, and our community’s ability to strengthen Canada is welcome.

Attendees will hear:

  • More about what is happening in the U.S.
  • Pros and cons about pursuing “attraction” in this moment
  • What other jurisdictions like the EU and Netherlands are doing
  • Proposals that could be pursued to help Canada lead in this moment

Attendees can also have their say and ask questions following the conversation by set by speakers from University Health Network, the Centre for Canadian Innovation and Competitiveness, Evidence for Democracy and more. This dialogue will help Research Canada iterate policy options on this and related files.

Register here to attend and we look forward to the conversation on Thursday!
